Barbara Park, author of the award-winning Junie B. Jones series, claimed that the inspiration for her beloved, wacky kindergartener came from her time spent at Cherokee Elementary. In honor of her first Junie B. Jones adventure, Cherokee Elementary wanted a “Stupid Smelly Bus” experience in their new library.
Orcutt Winslow designed the experience to live inside of an actual school bus inside the library.
At Spectacle, we took everything on, from the moment the bus arrived at our studio. We worked with engineers to ensure any modifications we made to the bus met building code. We transformed the interior into a bright and inviting reading nook by relying on the blueprints and architectural specifications from Orcutt Winslow to deliver their millwork, upholstery and flooring designs.
As a fun bonus for our love of the interactive, we created a driver experience that allows kids to pretend they are driving a real school bus. Children can press a button to “turn on the bus” and the gas pedal will create sound effects to simulate driving the vehicle.
