Intersection - City of Phoenix

Bringing an intersection between art and technology, the past and present, and nature and the city, Spectacle worked with the City of Phoenix’s Mayor Office, The Office of Arts & Culture, and Downtown Inc. to design an artistic interactive piece bringing Phoenix residents closer to their city and invokes the question of how technology may be applied to modern art, as it is an integral part of everyday life.
A rear screen projection on the glass of the A.E. England Building located at ASU’s Downtown Campus depicted scenes of Phoenix before the turn of the century and desert landscapes. We designed custom interfaces for XBox Kinect cameras that captured movements of people walking on the sidewalk or playing in front of the wall to transition scenes. The wall could be seen from the Phoenix Metro Light Rail and drew a large amount of street traffic, including artists and children.
